Nils Frahm is -or should we say ‘was’- a user of the Elektor Formant (DIY) synthesizer.

His Formant synthesizer is on sale as per today (february 17, 2022) via Soundgas. This is the advertisement:

ELEKTOR FORMANT MODULAR SYNTH (NILS FRAHM)

Super-rare Elektor Formant modular synthesizer and matching keyboard for sale as part of the Soundgas Nils Frahm Auction. Complete with the original manual and build instructions (in German) for all modules – English version is here. Nils told us he’d used this on many recordings over the years. It can be seen in the photos taken when we visited Funkhaus last year. These were built from kits around the end of the 1970’s and according to Nils this one was built to a high standard. As noted above we will be servicing this for the buyer before it ships. Also we will be trying not to fall in love with it too much.

This item has come from Nils Frahm’s Saal 3 studio in Funkhaus, Berlin. It comes with a signed and numbered certificate of provenance. Please see above for information on functionality/condition. Auction items are not supplied with any warranty.

Very good. Missing some knob caps. See photos for more information.

This auction item will have 20% VAT added to the final price for UK/EU buyers. VAT-free sales are possible to businesses and individuals in the EU (outside the UK) with a valid VAT Number – please get in touch after you have won the auction.

220/240v unit. A step-up transformer will be required for use on 110/120v supplies. Please ask if you need advice on what to use. We do not recommend using cheap, generic Chinese mains transformers.
