Split Enz – I hope I never (string sounds)

Always wondered which synths were used by Split Enz? Their ‘I hope I never’ hit in the 80’s contained piano and a lot of synthesized string sounds. Ever wondered what synth was used for that big sound?

If you look at the video’s of that time, it is not quite clear. It even looks as if keyboard player Eddie Rayner plays the strings on an Octave Kat polyphonically (….). But it turns out that a Yamaha CS-80 is used for the fat strings.
